India carries one of the highest burn injury burdens in the world. The scale of the problem is matched by a severe shortage of specialised burn care outside major cities.
Peer-reviewed clinical research and academic publications in burn care, standards, rehabilitation, and patient outcomes authored by Dr. Suvashis Dash:
Dash S, Pompermaier L, Lavrentieva A, Rogers AD, Depetris N. Burns, 2023. Defines global burn care standards, rehabilitation benchmarks, quality of care metrics, and clinical patient outcome indicators through an international survey of multidisciplinary burn professionals.
An evidence-based approach to post-burn rehabilitation in India
India faces one of the highest burn burdens globally with over 7 million injuries annually, making it the second most frequent trauma cause. The high mortality (~1.4 lakh annually) and acute trauma are further compounded by a critical shortage of specialized burn rehabilitation facilities outside tertiary metropolitan hospitals. Most survivors live far from tertiary centres; after hospital discharge, lack of structured guidance leads to severe joint contractures, hypertrophic scarring, infections, and permanent physical disabilities.
Funded as an intramural research grant by AIIMS New Delhi (PI: Dr. Suvashis Dash), this project aims to bridge geographical care disparities by delivering specialist-designed, evidence-based post-burn rehabilitation directly into patients' homes. The objective is to prevent debilitating contractures, guide wound management, eliminate avoidable travel costs, and support holistic physical and psychological healing.
Conceived and developed by the Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery at JPN Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS New Delhi. The digital portal delivers 7 structured clinical modules with 45+ instructional video guides, interactive flashcards, myth-busters, and nutritional tools. Built with a zero-barrier, mobile-first design in multiple regional Indian languages for low-bandwidth access without mandatory login barriers.
Validated through the Hindi-adapted mHealth App Usability Questionnaire (H-MAUQ) with superior patient acceptance and clinical clarity. Early implementation demonstrates significant improvements in home dressing hygiene, increased adherence to custom pressure garment therapy (23 hours/day), active preservation of joint range-of-motion, and substantial reduction in out-of-pocket travel costs for rural families.
This platform demonstrates that digital rehabilitation is a feasible, high-impact, and scalable public health intervention for post-burn care in India. By bridging tertiary surgical intervention with structured home rehabilitation, it provides a vital continuum of care from hospital discharge to complete physical, functional, and social reintegration.
Patient Education Platform for Post Burn Rehab
A comprehensive digital burn rehabilitation and patient education platform. It provides clinical video guides, interactive flashcards, wound-care protocols, and recovery trackers developed by AIIMS specialists.
Burn survivors recovering at home, family caregivers managing daily dressings and therapy, and community healthcare workers seeking verified post-burn recovery guidance.
Post-burn recovery takes months, but repeated travel to distant burn centres is physically, financially, and emotionally exhausting. The platform prevents preventable complications like contractures and infections by bringing specialist guidance directly home.
Supported through an intramural research grant by AIIMS New Delhi (PI: Dr. Suvashis Dash).
Selected peer-reviewed publications and book chapters by Dr. Suvashis Dash.
Categorized into Burn Care, Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy, Mental Health, Scar Management, Pain Management, and Caregiver Support — featuring patient-friendly summaries and academic study data.

Test your knowledge with interactive flashcards. Pick a module to begin.
Tap any question to reveal the answer. These are the most frequently asked questions by burn patients and caregivers.
Proper nutrition is critical for burn wound healing. Select your personal food preferences and calculate your BMI to receive an evidence-based clinical meal plan.
Enter your height and weight, then select your dietary preferences to generate a tailored burn recovery meal plan.
Guided breathing exercises designed to reduce stress, manage pain, and support emotional recovery after burn injuries.
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes if you feel comfortable doing so.
Watch the meditating figure inhale and exhale. Breathe in deeply as the chest expands, hold when indicated, and exhale smoothly as the body relaxes.
Don't force your breath. If the pace feels too fast or slow, try a different preset pattern.
Even 3–5 minutes daily can significantly reduce stress and improve pain management during recovery.

The MobileBurnCare Portal is an educational patient resource produced by the Department of Burns, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, MobileBurnCare. Content presented on this portal (including videos, flashcards, nutrition guidelines, and meditation exercises) is intended strictly for general patient education and home rehabilitation guidance. It does NOT constitute individualized medical advice, clinical diagnosis, or a substitute for professional medical care. Always consult your attending burn surgeon or healthcare team for specific medical decisions.
The MobileBurnCare Portal ("BurnCare", "we", "our", or "us") is dedicated to protecting the privacy of patients, caregivers, and medical professionals who utilize our digital health education platform.
This Privacy Policy outlines how our application operates, what information is processed, how local storage is utilized, and how we uphold patient privacy in accordance with international digital standards and Google Play Console Developer Policies.
BurnCare is designed with a privacy-first, offline-first architecture. We do NOT collect, harvest, or transmit personal identity data to external servers.
No user accounts, sign-ups, passwords, phone numbers, or email registrations are required to use BurnCare. You can access all educational modules freely and anonymously.
Our portal includes a feedback section (`#page-feedback`) where users may optionally type a name and feedback message. This input is handled strictly within the client user interface to render a confirmation toast message (`feedback-toast`) and is NOT stored in databases or transmitted across the internet.
In the Nutrition module (`#page-nutrition`), users can enter height (feet/inches) and weight (kg) to compute body mass index (BMI) and protein recommendations. These numbers are calculated entirely in local JavaScript (`nutriCalcBMI()`) and are never sent to a server.
BurnCare does NOT collect, store, or process medical records, clinical diagnostic data, prescriptions, treatment logs, or Electronic Health Records (EHR). All rehabilitation guides and checklists are provided for general educational self-care.
BurnCare does NOT request access to your device camera or photo gallery. The application does not allow uploading, scanning, or transmitting burn wound photographs, medical scans, or personal pictures.
Any data stored locally on your device is used solely to provide a personalized user experience:
All stored data resides 100% locally on your device using standard browser web storage (`localStorage` and `sessionStorage`). No central cloud databases, remote servers, or external storage systems are used.
Local storage data remains on your device until you manually clear your browser site data or uninstall the application container. Because data is never sent to our servers, we hold no retained user data on remote infrastructure.
Because BurnCare does not collect personal data, we do NOT sell, rent, trade, share, or disclose any user information to third parties, commercial advertisers, data brokers, or external entities under any circumstances.
BurnCare does not integrate third-party advertising SDKs, commercial tracking plugins, or external payment portals. All educational assets (videos, flashcards, audio guides) are served directly from the application bundle and local host.
BurnCare does NOT use artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning models, external LLM APIs, or automated diagnostic algorithms to process user inputs or evaluate health conditions.
BurnCare does NOT use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We rely exclusively on client-side web storage mechanisms built into standard browsers:
| Storage Key | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
burn_rehab_lang |
localStorage | Stores user language preference |
